The May Meeting of the NwGFCA was held at the Calhoun Fire Department station #2 on May 28th at 6PM. Assistant Chief Terry Mills and Chief Lenny Nesbitt welcomed everyone to the meeting and to their facility. There were approximately 30 in attendance at the meeting.
President Chuck Nichols opened the meeting and GSFA President Lanier Swafford gave the invocation and blessing for the meal. Dinner was served courtesy of the Calhoun Fire Department.

Treasurers Report by Chief McGhee. We now have 64 paid members and 6 sustaining members.
President Nichols reviewed the IAFC Safety Stand Down for 2013 and went over the Rules of Engagement.
GSFA report given by President Swafford – Congratulations to Chief Craig Tully of Colquit Miller County Fire Department on his recent appointment to the Board of Public Safety. Chief Tully is the first Volunteer Chief to be appointed to the board. President Swafford reminded everyone of the Volunteer Recruitment & Retention class coming up at GPSTC and the Ga. Fire Service Conference in Albany September 9th – 15th.
GFSTC report by Chief Swafford – Next meeting June 12th at GPSTC.
Pension Fund report by David Luther – Dues increase goes into effect on July 1st. Guidance is available on their website on how to prepare.
GAFC report by Sgt. at Arms Dwayne Jamison – Thanked everyone for attending the Spring Conference and making it a success. Encouraged everyone to attend next year’s conference. Reported that the GAFC audit was complete and members of the Executive Board would be meeting with GMA and the auditors soon to review the results. The audit was at the request of the GFA to insure proper business practices when handling contracts and tax payer money. GAFC has deemed June as All Hazards Month, one day workshops with Haz Mat Team Leaders across the state will be held on June 13th at GPSTC and a one day workshop for GSAR team leaders will be held on June 14th. A report on the findings of the workshop will be forwarded to Ronnie Register with GEMA.
Mike “Waldo” Reynolds gave his outstanding presentation on “Life Lessons and Organization & Personal Imperfections” he received a standing ovation from the crowd.
Captain Ricky Busby gave a presentation on GSAR Task Force 6. Northwest Ga. departments can request GSAR TF6 through the MAC6 at (903)287-6226 or Gordon County 911 center at (706)602-0911.
Following Capt. Busby’s presentation, members went to the new Calhoun Fire Training Center for a hands on show and tell of the GSAR truck & equipment, showing of Chatsworth Fire Department’s new Heavy Rescue Pumper by Chief Baxter, and tour of CFD new training facility by Chief Chris Cox.
The meeting was adjourned at 2100 hours.
